Heidi Klum Says This Drugstore Moisturizer Is Like "Food" for Her Skin (2025)

What I Put on My Face

All skin is good skin, which is why good skincare is more of a journey than a destination. We all love a one-off tip—but, at Byrdie, we’re more interested in how our skin evolves over time. The product we've used for a decade, the ingredient cocktail that made us glow, the step we never skip, and all the advice in between. This is the stuff that makes a real difference. WithWhat I Put on My Face, we’re bringing you the rituals, recommendations, and failed experiments (we’ve all had them) straight from celebrities, founders, and influencers who’ve gone through it themselves.

For those who grew up watching early days Project Runway, Heidi Klum was an integral introduction to the world of beauty. Simply watching her enter the frame and offer her air kisses, the word "supermodel" finally clicked.

Now, 21 years after the kids watching Bravo with their moms first gained beauty consciousness and 30+ years after her modeling career began, Klum is just as much of a stunner—with the wisdom that comes along with all of that time in the spotlight. She knows how to take care of herself (leafy greens!) and how to plan out her primping (shaving while watching TV!) so she has more time for what she really enjoys (lots of epsom salt baths—though she's happy to shave there, too).

Ahead, Klum keys Byrdie in on her skincare journey, the one person who taught her the most about beauty, and her new partnership with PosheEra.

About Her Skin

"Nothing [about my skin] really bothers me. I mean, it's aging. It definitely has changed over the years, but it's not bothering me. It's just the course of life, that the skin ages. I try my best to keep it as glowing and healthy as possible, with the topical creams that I use, but also with [how I eat]."

How She Got Into Skincare

"I definitely watched the women around me. My grandmother, she would only approve one product, and my mom... she definitely had more beauty products than my grandmother. And so I always watched my mom, and I still do. She's always creaming her body, creaming her face, taking care of herself. I think you learn by watching the women around you.

"We just came out with an Intimissimi campaign [together]. At 80 my mom did her first campaign, and she looks amazing. So I can only hope that I will look like my mom when I'm 80 years old!"

Her Favorite Product

"I stopped using [lighter creams] a while ago. I need something that has more food for my skin, so to speak. I have a cream that's called Revitalift from L'Oreal. I use this for the day and the night."

Her Internal Beauty Routine

"[My family] cooks every day—at seven o'clock, we have dinner together with my kids, my husband. I think it's important to eat healthy things. Sometimes people are like, 'I eat good. I eat salad all the time.' And then I dig deeper, and I'm like, 'Okay, what salads do you eat? Like aCaesar salad with romaine?' It's the lightest leaf, there's nothing in it... so maybe you have to revisit your salads. The darker the leaf, the better. Or red leaves, or a lot of herbs you can put in the salads, garlic. I'm on this bone broth [streak] right now. I make my own. It's so simple, and I believe it's really good for you.

"I feel like what's on the inside is more important, sometimes, than what we can do topically. That's why my hair is shiny and it's growing. My nails [and] my skin look good. I think you have to hit it from all angles, and not just products. You are what you eat, so it's important that you have a healthy diet with a lot of good variation.

"I [also] think drinking water is super important, because with the elasticity you do see a difference [in your skin] if you have not had any water. Or if you drink a lot of water, I feel like you're more plump, in a way. You know, you can kind of pinch your skin a little bit, and then you can kind of see if it stays long or if it bounces back. If it stays for a long time, then you most likely are a little dehydrated."

Her Shower Routine

"I have one room in my house that's a bathtub room. I'm really into laying in salt and I love laying in the tub for a long time. I use the PosheEra in the bathtub, or in bed watching TV. Or you can just put it in your purse. It's an electric shaver that you can use wet or dry, and literally, that means anywhere wet or dry. You don't need shaving cream, you don't need water, you just need the PosheEra."

"For my hair, I love the L'Oréal Paris EverPure Shampoo and Conditioner. My hair is bleached super blonde—I'm a brunette naturally. So I have to always show that I have good products. And I use the EverPure Oil Serum; I want to make sure that I always have shiny and healthy looking hair."

The Skincare Step She Never Skips

"I take my makeup off. I always want to make sure that it's off so that the pores can breathe in the night. But other than that, I think food. Food and exercise and moving—overall being—is good for you."

"I [also] think what's important is to move your skin around. I believe in massages. I try to do it like once a week, or once every two weeks. It's not for the pampering reason, and it's not so much that I like to be moisturized from head to toe. It's really deep tissue, because you move your cells under the skin. It activates everything. Everything goes a little red, so I feel like it's moving. The oxygen is going, the blood is flowing. I think it's important, if you can do that—or if you have a friend or a partner you can [just massage each other]."

The Best Skincare Advice She's Ever Gotten

"Listen to yourself the most. You have to find your thing that works, because we're all individually so different. Everyone has to find their path and their favorite things that works for them. We all have different skin; some need more moistures, others have very oily skin. So I think you have to really search and look for it."

"It's the same with exercise, too. For me, it's not good to overdo it. I don't use weights that are so heavy and strain my body. I feel like that's why I don't have so many back pains or knee pains; I don't run five gazillion miles because I feel like I don't want to over-exhaust my body so much. I think it's good to run in order to have your heart going a little faster, but to me I think you have to listen to your body and what feels right. I think that's the most important thing."
